This blog contains direct quotes from websites as of 2023. Programs and policies do change, at colleges, from time to time, so please check with the colleges directly to receive any updates. These are not, necessarily, the biggest, best, or most popular programs at the college, but they are the ones that just “caught my eye” as unique, special, interesting, or just plain awesome. They are randomly listed in the blog section of this website. Enjoy!
The following are all quotes from the 2023 Misericordia University website:

Here are details about each of these:
Biology and Chemistry/Biochemistry: “The Biology and Chemistry/Biochemistry departments at Misericordia invite participants to explore careers in biology, biochemistry and chemistry. This experience will be a three-day, two-night camp that will be available to students entering their senior year in high school. Students who are interested in learning about the careers that a degree in biology, biochemistry or chemistry can lead to are strongly encouraged to attend. Students will work together on interdisciplinary projects in the areas of water quality and forensics from both a chemical and biological perspective. Students will also get to work with current faculty and students in the new Henry Science Center.
Entrepreneurship: “This three-day, two-night residential camp is offered to rising high school juniors and seniors who or may be interested in someday managing and owning their own business or simply want to know more about business. If so, the Entrepreneurship Camp at Misericordia University is for YOU! In this dynamic three-day camp, participants will have the opportunity to start and run their own coffee/candy business. Using a hands-on approach, campers will learn and apply fundamental business principles including branding and pricing your product, finance, marketing, and sales. This hands-on camp will also expose students to business etiquette, problem solving, and leadership skills. In addition, we will also delve into the concept of social entrepreneurship and how business can connect with social causes to create greater value for people, communities, and the planet.
Environmental Studies: “Rising seniors are welcome to dive in to the Misericordia Environmental Studies experience by joining our three-day, two-night camp! Our unique NEH-funded interdisciplinary Environmental Studies major exposes students to methods in problem solving from a humanities perspective and a scientific perspective, giving a full range of tools to address pressing issues such as habitat remediation, climate change, and other important environmental topics. In this camp, you will have the opportunity to work alongside scientists to conduct water quality assessment, completing hands-on activities in our brand-new Henry Science Center. You will also get the opportunity to debate, discuss and learn from our accomplished professors who teach in the humanities.
Literature: “During this four-day, three-night career exploration experience, students and faculty will investigate the theme of The Detective! Join Misericordia English faculty as we explore this exciting literary topic through literature, popular culture, film, drama, and music. In addition, students will tap into their creative juices as we conduct writing and theatrical workshops. Professional writing exercises will also be on tap. Camp participants will also interact with current English majors who will serve as camp counselors.
Physical Therapy and Diversity: “This four-day, three-night residential camp is offered to rising high school seniors (graduating class of 2024) with interest in exploring the career of Physical Therapy. Students will have the opportunity to observe Misericordia University’s on-campus clinic, gain hands-on experience in multiple laboratory settings, and gain an understanding of the PT profession. Special focus will be on social determinants of health and their impact on diverse communities. Participants will work with MU PT faculty, staff and students to create a health information project over the three-day camp.
Speech-Language Pathology: “The Speech-Language Pathology Career Exploration Camp is the perfect opportunity for rising seniors to become familiar with the many career options in the growing field of speech-language pathology. This four-day, 3-night camp is the only SLP residential Career Exploration Camp in the United States. Participants tour the department’s state-of-the-art academic facilities at John J. Passan Hall, learn about the career field from guest lecturers, interact with pediatric clients, and observe live therapy sessions in the Speech-Language and Hearing Center.
Teacher Education: “During this three-day, two-night career exploration experience, students who will be high school seniors for the 2023-2024 school year will participate in various sessions that will introduce them to the teaching profession and the Teacher Education Department (TED) faculty. The TED faculty will facilitate interactive sessions that highlight content areas/subjects that early childhood, special education, and middle-level teachers teach and showcase some cutting-edge technology the department uses to prepare pre-service teachers. These hands-on, interactive experiences also focus on student diversity and what it means to be an effective, student-centered teacher in the 21st century.
