Sports Biology/Sports Analytics at Springfield College, Springfield, MA

This blog contains direct quotes from websites as of today’s date. Programs and policies do change, at colleges, from time to time, so please check with the colleges directly to receive any updates. These are not, necessarily, the biggest, best, or most popular programs at the college, but they are the ones that just “caught my eye” as unique, special, interesting, or just plain awesome. They are randomly listed in the blog section of this website. Enjoy!

From the Springfield College website, 2023: “In the Springfield College sports biology major, we combine two of the things we’re best known for: science and athletics.

“The early curriculum for this preprofessional program gives students a grounding in the basic sciences as well as an opportunity to interact with highly qualified faculty to help students define their career objectives. From there, students take advanced courses in science and movement and have the opportunity to participate in research and/or a shadowing program to provide hands-on, real world experiences in careers that blend scientific knowledge with athletic studies.

“As a graduate from the sports biology major, students can enter health professions, pursue graduate schools, and enter leadership roles in newly evolving careers in sports science and sports medicine.

“In today’s sports industry, decisions are made with substantial assistance from data. The sports analytics minor will help you better understand the analytic techniques used in the field, such as mathematical, probability, and statistical modeling. This minor also complements students in the communications/sports journalism, business, and sport management major, as many of the skills taught will prove valuable to graduates once they’ve entered the field.”
