Coastal Environmental Science at Flagler College, Saint Augustine, FL

This blog contains direct quotes from websites as of today’s date. Programs and policies do change, at colleges, from time to time, so please check with the colleges directly to receive any updates. These are not, necessarily, the biggest, best, or most popular programs at the college, but they are the ones that just “caught my eye” as unique, special, interesting, or just plain awesome. They are randomly listed in the blog section of this website. Enjoy!

Location, location , location! Flagler College has a beautiful college campus (it used to be a hotel/resort) located on the northeast coast of Florida. Its location provides a perfect natural laboratory for the study of marine life on the Atlantic Ocean coast.

From the Flagler College website, 2023: “COASTAL ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE. With a degree in Coastal Environmental Science, you'll understand both terrestrial and marine environmental processes. That knowledge will help you grasp complex issues in coastal habitats.

“What You’ll Study: You'll begin by establishing a strong foundation in math, biology, chemistry, and physics. Then, you'll take courses from a wide variety of environmental disciplines:

Ecology

Marine biology

Oceanography

Science communication

Coastal processes

Science methodology

Finally, you'll undertake and complete authentic scientific research during a capstone research course usually taken during your senior year.

“Practical Experience. From day one, you're encouraged to get hands-on experience in both field and lab studies. You'll assist professors in research projects that lead to scientific presentations and publications. Our faculty involve you in every step of the process. This undergraduate research experience will set you apart from students at other institutions. It will also provide you with marketable skills after graduation.”
