Climate Science/Climate Change Programs at Northland College, Ashland, WI

This blog contains direct quotes from websites as of today’s date. Programs and policies do change, at colleges, from time to time, so please check with the colleges directly to receive any updates. These are not, necessarily, the biggest, best, or most popular programs at the college, but they are the ones that just “caught my eye” as unique, special, interesting, or just plain awesome. They are randomly listed in the blog section of this website. Enjoy!

From the Northland College website, 2023: “Understanding the climate system is crucial to navigating this century’s challenges with climate change. In this major you will study the interactions between Earth’s atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere, and learn how these interactions drive climate.

“You will learn about the physical causes of climate change and its consequences; the composition of the atmosphere and its inputs from oceanic, biological, and geological sources; how past climates help us predict future climate changes; the political and economic impacts of climate change locally, nationally, and globally. And you will analyze climate model predictions and their uncertainties, gain a better understanding of policy and economics, and what citizens can do to minimize and mitigate climate change.

“You will come out of this program with a strong foundation for atmospheric, meteorological, and climate science, as well as for advocacy and policy careers.

“For students seeking to add climate expertise to a major, we also offer a minor in climate change studies.

“The climate change studies minor helps you become an informed citizen and allows you to understand and articulate why climate change is happening. You’ll also learn how climate is modeled and gain a better understanding of policy and economics associated with climate change.”
